Betty Jane Hogan Heidenson Obituary Betty Jane Hogan Heidenson passed away Oct. 15, 2023 at the age of 102. Betty was born June 22, 1921 in Chicago Ill., the youngest of seven children to a large Irish Catholic family. She graduated in 1943 from DePaul University with a degree in accounting, one of three women graduates. She then worked at Topco Grocers in Chicago for several years. Betty married Walter �Jack� Heidenson Sept. 1, 1951. They welcomed son Walter in 1954, daughters Carol in 1957 and Ann in 1958. In 1964 she returned to school to earn her teaching credentials and began her second career teaching at elementary schools in Chicago. In 1968, Jack and Betty moved their family to Spokane and Betty resumed her teaching career, first at Indian Trail Elementary School and later at Cooper Elementary School. She retired in 1986. After retiring, she and Jack enjoyed being grandparents and traveling in their motorhome. Jack died in 1991. Betty remained active until her late 90�s, volunteering at the Barton School teaching ESL, attending weekly swim classes and living independently in her own home until shortly before her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Margaret Hogan, her siblings Mary Kelly, Berenice Gerrity, William Hogan, Thomas Hogan, Margaret O�Brien, Phillip Hogan, several nieces and nephews, and her husband Jack. She is survived by her children Wally (Donni) Heidenson, Carol (Jim) Parvey, Ann Darby, grandchildren Keli (Felice) Heidenson, Staci Heidenson, Nick Darby, Bryan Darby, and great grand-daughter Hailey Glander. A memorial service will be held Sat. Nov. 4 at 12:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane WA.
