Bradley J. Updegrove Obituary
Bradley J. Updegrove, 45, of Deer Park, WA, formerly of Newfane, NY entered into rest on December 26, 2011 in a single vehicle accident. Brad and his wife Traci have made their loving home in Deer Park, WA since the fall of 2008. Brad was born and raised in Newfane, NY and a graduate of Newfane Central School. He went on to NCCC and graduated magna cum laude for SUNY at Brockport and earned a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation. His passion for helping people was reflected throughout his career. He impacted the lives of many people through adaptive recreation and wheelchair sports while employed at Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation in Dallas, TX and Warm Springs Rehabilitation in San Antonio, TX. He later owned and managed Rehab Specialties in Dallas, TX and most recently, Rocky Mountain Medical Supplies in Spokane, WA. As a role model to many, Brad volunteered countless hours educating and inspiring patients who recently injured their spinal cords in his local communities. His personal interests included wheelchair rugby, basketball, water skiing, snow skiing, riding ATVs, hand cycling, and Texas Longhorn football. Brad was a member of the gold medal winning quad rugby team in the 1996 Paralympics in Atlanta, GA. Always smiling, Brad will be remembered as a strong, kind-hearted, and exceptional man who lived life to the fullest. His adventurous spirit knew no boundaries. Although Brad will be greatly missed, the impact he has made will live on. Brad was preceded in death by his step father, Eugene Clare Brad. He is survived by his wife, Traci Updegrove, parents Joyce Clare and Jim (Delores) Updegrove, all of Newfane, NY, siblings Heather (Mike) Davis of Buffalo, Kim (Jim) Johnson of Gasport, Todd Updegrove of Newfane and Nicole (Justin) Eckler of Wheatfield, NY. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 11:00AM at St. Andrew?s Episcopal Church at Wilson Burt Road and West Creek Road Burt, NY 14028. A private burial will be held at Corwin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations be made in Brad?s honor to either Newfane Lion?s Club, PO Box 254 Newfane, NY 14108 or to RISE Adventures, a nonprofit charitable organization for adaptive wheelchair sports.
