Carl Edward Ottoson Obituary (Age 84) Carl slipped peacefully into rest January 1, 2010 in Spokane, WA. He was born March 22, 1925 in Buckeye, WA to Gustav and Christina Ellen (Christensen) Ottoson. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Vera (Apitz) Ottoson, whom he married May 25, 1947 in Spokane, WA; children Beverly (Scott) Wood, Bruce (Judy) Ottoson, Joyce (Earl) Strickler; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister, Alice (Ottoson) Worden, two brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ernest Walter Ottoson, two sisters-in-law and a niece. He grew up knowing he would follow in his father's footsteps, and took over farming when his father retired. During the course of his career he was a dairyman, raised poultry and assorted crops at what would later become known as Silver Bell Farms. Carl served in the U.S. Navy and was an active member of the Wayside Community Center (Montfort School, where he attended school through 8th grade). He was a volunteer firefighter for 17 years with Spokane County Fire District 4 (first at Station 45 and then was instrumental in establishing Station 49). Carl was an active member of the Spokane Area square dance clubs for over 40 years where he served in many club and counsel offices. He also served as President and Treasurer of the Square & Folk Dance Federation of Washington. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, as well as traveling, cruising, woodworking, gardening and some needlecrafts. Viewing will be at Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday and Friday from 10-5. Following a private burial, a Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 3:00pm at Northview Bible Church 13521 N. Mill Road, Spokane, WA 99208. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heritage Center, Montfort School or a charity of your choice.
