Carol Alice (Oliver, Murcar) Mulvey Obituary
(Age 81) Our much loved, sweet mother and grandmother passed away peacefully, at home on Monday, September 28, 2015. She spent her final days surrounded by her loved ones praying for her comfort and enjoying her presence in their storytelling. Carol was born on February 19, 1934 in Spokane, WA to Harry and Marian (Lundberg) Oliver. Carol's mother died when Carol was just six years old. Mary Elizabeth Brislawn (Grandma Bess) became her stepmother in 1941. Harry and Bess raised Carol in Spokane, where she attended Saint Francis of Assisi grade school and Holy Names Academy, graduating in 1952. After high school, Carol attended Holy Names College where she completed the Medical Secretary Course and then obtained a position in the office of Dr. Abrams, where she worked until her first child was born. Carol married Albert "Al" Murcar in April of 1955 at St. Charles Parish. They purchased their brand new house, in the St. Charles neighborhood later that same year, where they raised their four children. Carol and Al divorced in 1968. Carol married Robert "Bob" Mulvey in 1970. The marriage to Bob provided the addition of his five children, their spouses and grandchildren. The house became the Christmas Eve gathering place where we enjoyed many dinners, parties and barbecues. Carol always did her best to provide a home that welcomed everyone. Many a late night was spent at the kitchen table, laughing and talking until the wee hours. Weekends were spent at Diamond Lake where Grandma and Grandpa Oliver had their cabin. Carol worked as the secretary of the Education Department at Fort Wright (Heritage) College from 1970 until 1987 when the Spokane campus was closed. She then obtained a secretarial position with the Fairmount Memorial Association, retiring in 1999. Carol loved to read, especially biographies of U.S. presidents. Pinochle, Scrabble and Canasta provided hours of entertainment and laughter with friends and loved ones. Carol remained in the house she loved for 58 years, until she was invited to live with her youngest daughter and her family. Though sad to leave her home full of memories, she was glad to be in the presence of family on a daily basis. Carol was greeted in heaven by her parents and her daughter Tammy Higgins, and many family and loved ones. She is survived by her sons, James Murcar (Debra) and Joseph Murcar (Sandra), both in Spokane and daughter Jeannie Robinett (Earl) in Mead, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mom, you have held our hands for a while. You will hold our hearts forever. We love you. A Memorial Service to celebrate Carol's life will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA 99224 on October 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM.
