Carol Patricia Hamm Obituary
Passed away September 30th, 2011. Born November 8th, 1921 in Mobridge South Dakota to Grover Potts and Grace Crowner Potts. She graduated from LaMoure (North Dakota) High School in 1939. Graduated from Capital Commercial College (Bismark) in 1940.
Carol served in the United States Marine Corps Women's Reserves from May 1943 to November 1945. Prior to her discharge, Corp. Potts trained her replacement, Corp. David Hamm. Carol and David were married on October 16th, 1946 at Temple Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO.
Carol is survived by her husband David, children: Carol (Tom) Bellinger, Linda (Randy) Crowe, David Hamm, Cindy (Kyle) Malmquist, Jim (Dianne) Hamm and Charlie (Joanie Eppinga) Hamm; grandchildren: Amy (John) Clark, Sarah and Maria Hamm, Nicole (Joe) Nickell, Mariana Bellinger, Nina (Nathan) Mallon-Neff, Eamonn Neff; great-grandchildren: Randy Hummel, Micah (Erika) Clark, Blake and Karis Clark; great-great-grandchildren Judith and Isaak Clark. Also her sister, Barbara (Clair) Sandess and brother Jim (Kathy) Potts of LaMoure, ND; numerous nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Grace Potts; brothers, Grover (Jane) Potts and Bob (Ethel) Potts.
Carol was a member of the Heritage Congregational Church, Marine Corps League and the Women's Marine Association. Carol modeled a life of service to others. She will be remembered for her compassion, strength, wisdom and love. On July 14th, 2005 Carol was presented the Legion of Honor Award, by the "Chapel of Four Chaplains" organization, for her devotion to and participation in serving the needs of others.
The Hamm family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the staff of Clare Bridge for their "above and beyond loving care" afforded to Carol for the near two years at their facility.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 8th, 2011 at Veradale United Church of Christ, 611 North Progress Road, Spokane Valley at 1:30pm. Inurnment to follow. Memorial gifts may be made in Carol's honor to the Alzheimer's Association or the Marine Corps League Relief Fund, Spokane.
