Carty Strait

In loving memory of Carty L. Strait. Carty passed away on May 23, 2025. He was born in Spokane, WA on May 30, 1942, to George Strait and Lila Bailey. Native to Spokane, Carty graduated from Shadle Park High School. After graduating high school, he attended college in Cheney, WA. There he met Gale L. (Salter) Strait, who became his wife of 44 years.

     

After graduating from college, he taught at Liberty High School in Spangle Washington where he established an Honors English program that continues to this day. Additionally, he initiated the drama program and pottery class during his 40 plus years of dedicated service. Carty was well known for his passion for the arts, being a well-established musician where he performed with the Spokane Symphony.

     

He was the loving father of two sons, Lee and Chris Strait. His grandchildren were the pride of his life and they remember him as the most loving and devoted grandfather.

     

He will be missed more than words can express.

    

Survived by his son Lee (Arista) Strait of Spokane, WA and Chris (Kim) Strait of Elizabethtown, KY; three grandchildren, Payton Strait, Conner Strait and Caitlin (Andrew) Leston; and his brother Rick (Gayle) Strait of University Place, WA and his sister Penny Peer of Yelm, WA.

    

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations on behalf of Carty Strait to the Spokane Symphony at foxtheaterspokane.org\give-now.

    

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd at 4pm, Sunset Chapel and Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 West Wellesley Avenue.
