July 12, 1933 - March 06, 2018

Catherine Deloris Shines Obituary (Age 84) Catherine Deloris Shines peacefully smiled her way into eternity on March 6, 2018. Catherine was born July 12, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Helen Bennett. She moved to Southern Idaho after her father, a Chicago police officer, was killed in the line of duty. In Idaho she unknowingly met her husband to be in the fourth grade. Catherine graduated from Pocatello High School and married Ja Oscar Shines Sr. after his military tour of duty on March 19, 1955. The couple moved their family to Spokane in 1970. Catherine had a great love for the Lord and gave her life to him at the age of 12. She believed in miracles and the power of prayer. Catherine would tell you the greatest gift she ever received was her family and the love of Christ. As a wife, her and Ja Oscar would host BBQs, support their church, and go fishing. As a homemaker, she cared for her six children, grandchildren and anyone else in need of love or a piece of Seven Up pound cake. She loved to cook, play and shop for the best deals in town. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Helen Bennett, her brothers James and Benjamin Bennett, her husband of 53 years, Ja Oscar Shines Sr., and her children Wanda Ann Shines, Ja Oscar Shines Jr. and Patricia Bradford. She is survived by her children Janice Thompson, Donna Bennett, and Joseph Shines. She leaves behind twenty grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of friends, including her golden girls. The family wishes to thank the staff, nurses, and doctors at Sacred Heart Hospital and Horizon Hospice for their countless hours of encouragement and compassion. Donations can be made in her name to the Sunday School of Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, 806 W. Indiana Spokane, WA 99205. A viewing will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Monday, March 12 from 10-5 p.m. A homegoing celebration will be held at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ (806 W. Indiana) on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. followed by a reception.
