Charles "Charley" David Schlesinger Obituary
(Age 61)
Passed away May 9, 2010. He was born July 12, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY to Philip and Rae Ruth (Katz) Schlesinger. Charles was raised in Brooklyn and attended Lincoln High School and Long Island College and graduated from
Gonzaga University Law School in 1977. Charley touched the lives of many. He was one of the original announcers at KPBX in 1975 and continued with the Jazz With Chaz show through April of 2010. During the seventies and early eighties he was co-owner of the Magic Mushroom record and waterbed store in Spokane. He was a music entrepreneur and a private investigator, who also worked for the City of Spokane Public Defenders' office. He'll be remembered as a Spokane Indians fan, a committed member of Temple Beth Shalom and the Jewish community and a loyal friend of all whose lives he touched. Many would say, lovingly, that he was a "sweet s.o.b" and he left behind a bevy of friends. Although not a father he was a grandfather to four grandchildren who called him "Grumps": Ian McClelland, Ruth Emma McClelland, Ben McClelland and Luke Hutchins. Charles is also survived by his mother Ruth Schlesinger; brother Ed and wife Barbara and their children Craig and Jaime; brother Arthur and wife Elaine and their children Max and Jordan and most importantly the love of his life Sue Lindenberg-McClelland. Family and friends attended a graveside service at Mt. Nebo Cemetery on Monday May 10, 2010. To honor his life, donations can be made in his name to: KPBX Spokane Public Radio, 2319 N. Monroe, Spokane 99205, www.KPBX.org or Life Center Northwest (organ donation non-profit organization) Living Legacy Foundation, 11245 SE 6th. St. #100 Bellevue, WA 98004 www.lcnw.org.
