Charles Raymond Yentzer Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Charles Raymond Yentzer, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He passed away in Spokane, Washington on July 29, 2023. Charlie was born on March 19, 1923 in Sycamore, Ohio, to Ralph and Mable Yentzer. At the age of 9, he left home to work on a nearby dairy farm, where he worked for 10 years, milking cows and farming. At the age of 19, he left home to join the Army, later transferring to the Air Force. He retired from the Air Force in 1968, after 26 years of service.
While stationed in Germany as a corporal in the Air Force, a friend introduced Charlie to the love of his life, Anna Benedikt, on January 2, 1947. Twenty months later they were married on September 1, 1948. This year would have been their 75th wedding anniversary. In 1968, Charlie retired from the Air Force and moved to Spokane. He then began working for Old National Bank, until he finally retired.
For 20 years, Charlie and Annie lived at Rockwood Retirement on Hawthorne, but for the last 5 years, they lived at Rockwood Retirement on the South Hill. There, Charlie, tirelessly took care of Annie while she suffered from dementia, until her death in February 2020. After her passing, he made many friends at Rockwood. He could not walk down the hall without someone saying Hi, Charlie. When you would ask him who that was, he said he didnt know. But everyone knew him. He always had a smile and a friendly greeting to everyone he passed. Charlie also became very active in the community church services, becoming a Lay Leader. He was so proud of that accomplishment and loved getting things ready for church services every Sunday. On March 19 this year, Charlie celebrated his 100th birthday, with all his family and friends. This was the one goal he wanted to achieve. He will be greatly missed at Rockwood.
Charlie loved traveling with Annie, although they often traveled to the same locations. If they had good food, he couldnt understand why they needed to go anywhere else. He also loved fishing with the family. And, if you were willing to listen, he would tell you many stories about fishing with his wife and how she usually out fished him.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Clingman (Wyoming), daughter Charlene Milota (Utah), son Steven Yentzer and Tina (Walla Walla and Seattle), granddaughter Heather Salle (Utah), grandson Jordan and wife Nicole (Seattle), granddaughter, Zoe Hepler and husband Willie (Poulsbo), 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Wednesday August 9, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Heritage Funeral and Cremation at 508 N Government Way, Spokane, WA 99224, 509-838-8900 followed by graveside Military service at 2:30 pm at adjacent Greenwood Memorial Cemetery.
