Charles William Pettit Obituary
(Age74) Passed away January 28, 2016, in Spokane, Washington. He was born December 12, 1941 to Richard and Etha Louise Pettit in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Chuck grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Paradise Valley, Arizona. He graduated from Sunny Slope High School in Arizona in 1959. He entered the Navy later that same year. He went through E&EP School in Great Lakes, Illinois where he became an electrician. One thing Chuck was very proud of was serving during the Cuban Crisis.
December 18, 1959 Chuck met the love of his life! Chuck and Barbara Jury were married May 5, 1962 in Phoenix, AZ. For the next 53 years Chuck and Barbara would live in Longview, Lynnwood, Lake Stevens and finally Spokane, Washington during retirement. Chuck spent most of his life working construction. As a young man he was the only one small enough to brick the inside walls of the wells his father had dug. He would catch the brick his dad would drop. Chuck and his dad, with their families in tow, moved to Longview, Washington. After brief stays in Longview and Lynnwood, Chuck, Barbara and their children settled in Lake Stevens. In 1972, Chuck bought his first backhoe and the beginning of 23 years of All Construction and Excavation had begun. In 1995 Chuck returned to working sheet metal and retired in 2006. That was when Chuck and Barbara packed their belongings for the very last time and moved to Spokane.
Chuck?s strong sense of family was instilled by his dad, Dick. Yearly vacations to California, Arizona, New Mexico, Montana and Wyoming were events the family cherished. Chuck always had a good yarn to spin of days gone by, vacations and the many exploits of his children. Chuck?s laugh would boom across the acres in Lake Stevens. Through hard work, driven by the deep love he had for his family, Chuck gave his wife and children a life most people only dream about. They were not lavished with expensive gifts or lives of luxury, better yet, he provided a lifetime of memories, times of both good and struggle. Life lessons that they all carry and share with their families.
During Chuck?s last couple of years things began to change. Simple things we all take for granted were not so simple. Chuck?s memory was fading. While stories from his childhood were still cemented in his mind, the memories of family were fleeting. And then a gift, which can only be described as from God, Lewy Body Dementia had lost its grip! Barbara, his bride of 53 years and true love walked through the door, Chuck?s smile lit the room! They sat hand in hand, telling one another how much they loved the other.
Chuck leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara (Jury) Pettit; and his children, Scott (Debbie) Pettit, Angie (Stan) Carlisle; Carrie (Derek) Bartholomew; Leslie (Earon) Delacruz, Robert (Cheryl) Jury, and his nephew Eric (Cheri) Jury, and all of his grandchildren Erin Kilgore, Adam and Daniel Fazio, Jessica Dempsey, Kelcey, Courtney and Jered Bartholomew, Dillon and Delaney Pettit, Caleb, Elizabeth and Nicholas Delacruz and his great grandchildren, Janey, Noah, Riley, Logan, Katie, Addison, Peytan and Sophie. He is also survived by his sisters Sharon Mealer, Jackie Forrest, Karon Ambrogi and Robin Pettit, nieces and nephews; Shaun, Jennifer, Randi, Cheryl, Cathy, Christy, Caroline, Benjamin, Caiti, Briana, Amie, and Nicholas.
Chuck was preceded in death by both his parents, Richard Sr. and Louise Pettit, his brother Richard Pettit Jr., Patti Jury Pederson and William Allen Jury his sister in-law and brother in-law that he raised as his own, he was also preceded in death by his sister and brother Charlotte Ann and Larry.
