Cherrie Kay Rodrigue

Cherrie was born in Spokane, Washington on April 26th, 1944, to Rev. Alvin Jerome & Marie Jerome of Garden Springs. She sang as part of a trio with sister Donna & Mom. She played Piano on many occasions for Sunday services & choir practice at the Garden Springs Community Church during her teenage years. Cherrie graduated from Lewis & Clark High School & was a member of the LC Choir for 4 yrs. She often mentioned that choir was her favorite part of H.S.
She married Gerald W. Schmer on November 18th, 1962. Cherrie & Jerry later divorced and Cherrie married Herman Rodrigue Jr. of Marrero, Louisiana. She resided in New Orleans, Louisiana for 18 years before moving back to Spokane in 1983 upon the death of her husband. Cherrie was also pianist at Faith Presbyterian Church for several years.
While living in New Orleans Cherrie & husband Herman, owned & operated a Seafood Store selling fresh shrimp, crab & crawfish, much of which was also caught by her husband. He was an avid shrimper in addition to his regular job at a Buick Dealership Sales Mgr.
Cherrie worked almost all of her adult life as an Admin. Assistant. Various employers include an artificial kidney manufacturer, Coors Beer, and, not to forget, 9 yrs with Wheelabrater and the Waste to Energy Facility.
Cherrie also spent 15 yrs as a Resident Manager at Riverfalls Tower. She was well remembered for the Spectacular parties & get togethers she hosted. She was known for her friendliness and sense of humor. Cherrie made many friendships while at Riverfalls and was greatly missed when she retired.
Cherrie later decided to return to work. She ended her career with Cedar Springs Apartments, where she worked for several years as a Manger and then part time as a receptionist for the company. She worked until her passing on October 13th, 2025.
Cherrie is preceded in death by Al & Marie Jerome, husband Herman and Brother- in- Law Ron McArthur.
She leaves behind 2 children, Lisa Scott & husband William Scott Sr and Gerald W. Schmer Jr & wife Belinda Freeland- Schmer, 2 granddaughters, Sloan Freeland-Smith and SheaLee Freeland-Schmer, one sister Donna McArthur and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 21st, 2026, at 12:00 pm at Heritage Funeral & Cremation. 508 N. Government Way. Spokane, WA. A Reception to follow after.
