Christine (Ackerman) Zimmerman Obituary Passed away November 21, 2016 in Couer D 'Alene, ID after suffering a stroke at the age of 98. A Funeral Service will be held at Heritage Funeral Chapel on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 1:00pm with viewing 1 hour before. Christine was born August 14, 1918 to Adam and Emelia Ackerman in Watauga, South Dakota. Christine and her family moved to the Spokane area in 1936, ultimately making Spokane her lifetime home. Shortly after arriving Christine met her future husband Pete, who had also left the Dakotas during The Great Depression. Pete and Christine were married in the German Baptist Church on December 19, 1937 and spent 71 years in marriage together at the time of Pete's passing at the age of 99. The couple settled into a home on the northeast side, Pete working in the railroad yards and Christine working many years at the Bon Marche. Christine delighted in assembling and hosting frequent family gatherings where Pete's accordion and Christine's guitar would fill the home with Gospel music. She also served as a volunteer at the Hillyard Baptist and Trinity Baptist Church. Christine is survived by her son Lester (Valene) Zimmerman; brother Wesley (Peggy) Ackerman; granddaughter Renee (Jim) Hix; grandson Phil (Julie) Zimmerman; three great-grandchildren Amy, Noah, and Roman as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Pete, siblings Lorena, Ted, Alvin, Ida, Anna, Daniel, and Ernie. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Baptist Church, Spokane.
