September 08, 1912 - March 25, 2011

Clara M. Schmauder Obituary (Age 98) Clara was born September 8, 1912 to William and Lizzie Detmer in Genoa, NE. She passed away March 25, 2011 in Spokane, WA. In 1934 Clara married Clarence Showalter, who preceded her in death. They were married 43 years. Clara was involved in many venues of service at both Euclid Avenue Baptist Church and later at Fourth Memorial Church. Washington Water Power was her employer prior to having her family, and she worked at Seattle First National Bank after Clarence retired with a disability. Clara was known for her marvelous sense of humor and mischievousness. April Fool's Day was a favorite for her. You could be sure that she had something in store for you that day! Clara loved animals. She made dozens of quilts for animal shelters, hoping to make the cats and dogs comfortable. She also loved to tend her beautiful flower gardens and they were the prettiest around. Clara was preceded in death by her brother Roy Detmer, and sister Deloris Watson. She is survived by her sister Elsie Heine and brother Maynard Detmer. Also surviving are her children: Glen Showalter (Marcie), Sharon Moran (Ted), and Connie Hearn (Mark); grandchildren Tamara Thomas (Steven), Jeff Ross (Kim), Dale Rigg, Joseph Moran (Sarah), Shannon Shewey, and William Moran (Kim); great-grandchildren Taffney and Zeke Ross, Danielle and Jenna Thomas, Michael and Lauren Shewey, and Belden Moran. The family held a private interment service at Fairmount Memorial Park. A Memorial Service celebrating Clara's life will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11:00am at Heritage Funeral Chapel. Clara is free from pain and with her Lord.
