Clarke T. Richardson, Jr. Obituary Clarke T. Richardson, Jr., Lt. Colonel USAF (Retired), passed away in Spokane on May 16, 2016, at age 84. Born in Birmingham, AL, Clarke obtained a bachelor's degree in History and a master's in Political Science at Emory University in Atlanta, where he met his wife of 64 years, Haroldyne Scott. Clarke entered the Air Force as an officer in 1953 and together, he and Haroldyne traversed Europe during two assignments in Germany. Before retiring as the Services Squadron Commander at Fairchild Air Force Base, Clarke served in Europe, Texas, Colorado (Air Force Academy), and Vietnam, where he was Services Squadron Commander at Camranh Bay Air Base in 1971-72. He was the second to last American to leave Camranh Bay before it was turned over to the South Vietnamese military. Clarke also taught classes for Georgia State University, the University of Maryland, Georgia Tech, and Fort Wright College. After retiring from the military, Clarke obtained his counselor certification in Alcohol/Substance Abuse, then earned his second master's degree, this one in Human Services. He worked at Sacred Heart Medical Center and Spokane Falls Community College before finding his true calling of counseling combat veterans at the Vietnam Veterans Services Center. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Haroldyne; children Melanie, Kristin, and Clarke III; and four grandchildren. Clarke was a voracious reader and loved gadgets, history, and the outdoors. A gracious and true Southern gentleman, and a military man to the end, Clarke's devotion to family, humor, and intellectual curiosity will be sorely missed. A Memorial Service is planned for Sunday, June 19, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.
