April 15, 1920 - January 05, 2010

Claude Milfred Bauer Obituary (Age 89) Passed away on January 5, 2010. Claude was a longtime resident of Spokane, Washington, and had recently been living at Highland Hills Assisted Living Center in Pocatello, Idaho, where he moved to be closer to his daughter. He was born April 15, 1920, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Ora and Sam Bauer, and was raised from early childhood in Hardin, Montana. He graduated from Hardin High School in 1938 and joined the Army/Air Force soon thereafter. He flew many missions during World War II over Africa and Europe and received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service and bravery as well as the Purple Heart. During the war, while stationed at Geiger Field, Claude met his soul mate, Violet (Vi) Irene Johnson. After his final tour of duty overseas, the couple married and lived in Salinas, Kansas, his last duty station. After his service was completed, the couple returned to Spokane, where they lived for nearly the remainder of their lives. Upon returning to Spokane, Claude pursued training as a machinist. After obtaining his license, he began work at American Machine Works, where he was employed for over 35 years until his retirement in 1983. Claude's main focus in life was his home and family. He and his wife had their only child, Claudia, in November 1951. When his two grandsons arrived in the 1970s, he became a proud and devoted grandpa. Claude's other interests and hobbies revolved around woodworking, home improvement and yardwork. Claude is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and David Stoker, of Pocatello, Idaho; his grandsons, John Moore and Jason Moore, both of Washington State; and by his four great-grandchildren: Brittany Moore, Bryce Moore, Kaylee Moore, and Trinity Moore. Funeral Service 2:00PM Friday January 8, 2010 at Heritage Chapel.
