Col. David A. Steegstra, USAF, Ret. Obituary (Age 71) Dave passed away on March 26, 2015 in Spokane after battling cancer for a year and a half. He was born on September 25, 1943 in LaCrosse, WI to John and Louise Steegstra. As a child, his family lived in the Midwest before settling in the Boston, MA area. He graduated from Wellesley High School, went on to college, and then to dental school at the University of Pittsburgh. Upon graduation he took a commission with the US Air Force, served as a dentist at various bases around the world, before retiring as a Colonel in 1989 from his post as base dental commander at Fairchild AFB. Dave was very athletic, mechanically inclined and could fix just about anything. He was well known and liked in his neighborhood as a person who was always happy to help and never wanted compensation. He is survived by his longtime friend Carolyn Goaslind; his brother Richard (June) Steegstra; and his cousin Ginny (Bud) Zimmerman. A memorial service will be held at 4PM, Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS at 2112 W. Francis Ave., Spokane. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Spokane Guild School and Neuromuscular Center, 2118 W. Garland Ave., Spokane 99205 or your favorite charity.
