Constance VanHorne Obituary Connie Mila VanHorne 78, passed away peacefully on March 13 after her long battle with Alzheimers. She was born to Clifford and Clara Treat and grew up in North Spokane, where she attended and graduated from Rogers High School, and later Whitworth College where she received her degree and Masters in Education. In 1966 she married Ron VanHorne. They were married for 36 years and had 2 children, Jeff and Kendall. While being an excellent mother she also used her degree to teach in Cheney and Alaska, but the majority of her teaching career was spent educating and inspiring students in the Mead School District. She finished at Brentwood Elementary School where she retired after 33 years in education. After retirement, she moved to Lake Coeur d alene where she enjoyed the lake life including boating to Harrison for ice cream, or Conkling Park to watch her favorite bands, jet skiing and enjoying her dogs and other surrounding wildlife. When she wasnt at the lake she was at her condo in Mazatln spending a month at a time, walking, shopping, and enjoying the culture and friends she had made or spending her time singing the choir at her church using her beautiful voice to bringing joy to others. Connie loved her home, traveling, and music but it was her family she was most proud of and spending time with them made her the happiest. To her, preparing for all the holidays with all her elaborate decorations and hosting and entertaining or watching her sons and grandchildren play football, soccer and participate in other activities and events, and supporting them any way she could was her top priority. Connie also adored her pets, including her dogs, and horses and would often volunteer at the Humane society and other various animal shelters. It was this true love of people, family, animals and life that made her so special. She was kind, caring, gracious and giving and an inspiration to many. Connie is survived by her 2 sons, Jeff and Kendall and grandchildren, Alexis, Karalina and Bennett. A private family graveside memorial will be held at the Greenwood cemetery March 28th. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations in her name be made to the Spokane Humane Society.
