Curtis L. Chumbley better known as Curt, dad, grandpa or just gramps, passed away on July 6th, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born in Portland, Oregon, on January 23rd, 1933, to Floyd and Martha (Hildebrand) Chumbley, the oldest of their two sons. Curt and his brother, Jim, were entrepreneurs at a young age from selling flowers they had picked from yards to mowing lawns. This experience would prove valuable in his adult life. Curt joined the Air Force at the age of 18 and proudly served as a bomb loader in the Korean War. Stationed in Moses Lake towards the end of his term, he met his future wife, Betty. They met in May 1955 and married that September. They were together for 69 years until Betty passed in May 2024.

Curt spent over 55 years in the manufactured home industry, most of the time at Dye Hawley Homes. He started as a salesman of travel trailers and manufactured homes. He would soon become a top salesman, progressing to sales manager and eventually ownership. During his years at Dye Hawley’s, he was involved in various organizations such as the Spokane Valley Rotary and the Washington Manufactured Home Association. He won several awards and even trips to Hawaii, Europe, and a variety of cruises sponsored by Manufactured Home factories. He eventually sold Dye Hawley Homes and opened up Curt Chumbley Homes in Airway Heights.

Through the 1970s, he was actively involved in trapshooting and won several sanctioned tournaments. Then he turned his interest into running and racquetball. As a runner, he participated in 15 Bloomsday’s and numerous 10k and half marathon runs. He even started the Dye Hawley running club with several members participating.

The last 25 years Curt and Betty spent much of the year in Tucson, where they soaked up the sun and didn’t even think about shoveling snow.

Curt is survived by his children, Jim (Tracy), Teri, and Nancy; grandchildren, Alicia, Evan, Curtis, Forest, Melissa, Ariel and Christopher; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; father, Floyd; mother, Martha; brother, Gary; and granddaughter, Amber.

Curt's funeral services will be held on August 9th, 1 o’clock p.m., at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way. Graveside will immediately follow the service with a reception to follow.

These are Curt’s final words to his children and grandchildren, "I’m done-D-U-N-done.
