Cindy was born Cynthia Rae Stanley on August 2, 1952 in Spokane to Lawrence A. and Beverley J. (Kivett) Stanley and passed away peacefully on September 18, 2017. She attended Field Elementary School, Glover Junior High, and Shadle Park High School (graduated 1970). She attended Washington State University (Bachelor of Arts, 1974) in Pullman where she participated in the Honors Program and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She continued her education with post graduate studies in German at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. As an extension of those studies, she studied abroad at the Goethe Institute in Tbingen, West Germany for two years. After her time in Germany, Cindy returned to Columbus, OH where she met Timothy Brookes who she married in January 1980 in Spokane, WA. After living in Ohio, she moved to Olympia, WA where she was a Legislative Clerk before returning to Spokane where she worked at Empire Bolt & Screw as Purchasing Manager from 1983 to 1992. She worked as a teacher for several years at East Valley and Central Valley School Districts as well as Lewis and Clark High School. After teaching, she returned to her Purchasing profession working first at Telect and then at Zak Designs where she retired in 2011. Cindy gave birth to her daughter, Laura Rachel Brookes, in January 1985 and selflessly devoted herself to raising Laura who was her pride and joy. She loved gardening, music, playing the piano, singing, reading, and traveling. Her favorite destination was the Oregon Coast which she fondly referred to as her happy place. She deeply loved her maternal grandparents, Ida and Fred Kivett, and had fond memories of visiting them in Central Oregon. Cindy was self-reliant, reverent, resilient, kind, a lover of animals, and an extremely caring person. She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and attended South Hill Bible Church where she was active in the church choir and bible study. She generously volunteered for many charitable organizations over the years, and was always quick to help anyone in need. Cindy courageously battled cancer with grace and dignity for many years until her Lord called her home. She is survived by her daughter Laura Goetsch (Adam), Seattle, WA; parents Bev and Larry Stanley, Spokane; brothers Ron Stanley (Heidi), Spokane and Jon Stanley (Shauna) Greenacres and nephew Jameson Stanley. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at South Hill Bible Church, 958 E. 29th. Ave., Spokane 99203 with a reception following. A private graveside service preceded. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission, 1224 E. Trent Ave. Spokane 99202 or South Hill Bible Church.
