David was given by God to Dumas and Alberta Freeman Johnson on January 4, 1920 in Camellia, Georgia. He grew up in the cities of Jacksonville, FL and Macon, GA where he completed his formal education. He enlisted in an all black Army and served his country well for 28 years, retiring in 1972 as a Sgt. 1st Class. He was also employed by Whitworth College for eight years. David was ordained as a Deacon in 1977 under the leadership of Rev. Freeman Simmons. He served as the President of the Layman's Dept. of the North Pacific Baptist Convention from 1982-84. He was also a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church Men's Chorus for many years. To forever cherish his memory and his journey is his loving wife, Joan Johnson; daughters Mary Louise Johnson, Meta Hill, E. Diana McDaniel and Linda K. Jones; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday, December 11th, 8-5PM at Heritage and a Funeral Service 11:00AM Monday, December 13, 2010 at Bethel AME Church, 645 S. Richard Allen Ct. with interment following at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
