David L. Riggs Obituary David passed away on September 9th, 2010 at the age of 75 in Spokane, WA. Born to William "Bill" A. & Flora K. Riggs on March 5, 1935, in Tallmansville, WV where he was raised and graduated from Cowen High School. He entered the Army in June, 1954 and served his country faithfully. During his military service, he married L. Katherine McElroy on May 4th, 1956 in Anchorage, Alaska and had four children; David "Bud", Vicki, Monica and Steven. David and his family traveled throughout the country as well as abroad to France, Vietnam and Germany before settling with his family in Washington State. David served as a dietician chef which carried over into his civilian life. He also took up masonry, woodworking, and camping. He and Kathy became very involved in their RV Club. They traveled and camped with many friends and family. They also served coffee and cookies at the rest areas through the local VFW. He was also active in fundraising and food gathering for the VFW. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy, of 53 years; his parents; a brother and a son-in-law. He is survived by sisters Patricia Strader and Inez Wilfong of Tallmansville, WV; children David "Bud", Vicki, Monica and Steven and their respective spouses; he became "Pappy" to 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren whom he enjoyed and spoiled whenever possible, as well as many other family and friends. David will be greatly missed by all. His oldest son, Brother David Riggs will be officiating the service. Friends will be received for viewing on September 16th and 17th, between 10am to 5pm, at Heritage Funeral Home 508 Government Way Spokane, WA. Funeral Services are on the 18th at 2:00pm, with a graveside service including Military Honors. Reception will follow at the family's' residence. All are welcome. Donations will be received at VFW, 300 W. Mission Ave., Spokane, WA 98201.
