Dean M. Shields Obituary The Lord took our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on June 2, 2009. Dean was born to Jerome and Anna Shields on February 7, 1917, the youngest of four sons. He attended school in Spokane, college at Gonzaga University, and was a life-long resident of Spokane. He served his country in the army, earning several medals and an honorable discharge. Dean married the love of his life, Elizabeth Stack, in 1940 and together they raised nine children. He was an avid gardener and a member of the Spokane Orchid Society. A baker by trade, he retired in 1981 after 33 years at Safeway. Dean is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Lyndel, Lyle, and Wayne. He is survived by Elizabeth (Betty), his loving wife of 68 years and his children Ellen (Pete) Peterson, Eileen DeLong, Cheryl (Dean) Leipham, Greg Shields, Gloria (Kent) Langley, Tim (Terri) Shields, Colleen Johnson, Brian (Sue) Shields, Terry (Melody) Shields, 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Vigil Service is Friday, June 5, Heritage Funeral Home at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 6, at Mary Queen Catholic Church at 10:00 am. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery Monday, June 8, at 10:30 am.
