Diane Cuthill Thoren

January 14, 1953 - September 09, 2015

Diane Cuthill Thoren Obituary Diane Cuthill Thoren passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 9. Unfortunately, her many loved friends and family were not able to say goodbye. As the oldest of three children, Diane was born on January 14, 1953 in West Seattle, Washington to her proud parents, Jim and Jeanne Cuthill. The Cuthill family moved to Everett two years later and made 4916 Rucker their home for all of their formative years. Diane was a great big sister to her brothers, Jim and Dave. Diane graduated from Everett High School in 1971. Despite her fantastic grades and much to her Dad?s chagrin, she decided to become a WSU Cougar. She joined the Delta Delta Delta sorority and formed many lifelong friendships. Diane graduated in 1975 with a degree in accounting (clearly, a decision influenced by her Dad). She was an ardent Coug for life, serving on the Board of Regents and maintaining football season tickets through thick and thin (Fight, Fight, Fight for Washington State and Victory!). Crimson and Grey played an important role in her life. Diane embodied the words of that immortal Coug, Bob Robertson: ?Be a good sport, always?. Diane furthered her education by completing her MBA in finance at Eastern Washington University. After graduation, Diane moved to Spokane to start her professional career with the Washington Water Power Company. Little did she know that she would spend her entire, very successful career in the employ of that single company (now Avista) rising to officer level of Treasurer, exemplifying her wonderful traits of dedication, attention to detail, persistence and loyalty. She soon met and married the love of her life, Terry Thoren and became a warm, caring influence to Terry?s two daughters, Julie and Denise. Diane and Terry were doting grandparents to Zachery, McKenzie, Colton and Avery. Diane and Terry loved to enjoy and share their homes with family and friends in Spokane and at the lake in Bayview, ID. She was deeply committed to helping others through her volunteer work with organizations such as Junior League, Women Helping Women and the YWCA. Diane retired from Avista at the end of 2013, ready to enjoy many years of comfortable retirement, quality time with friends (Tri Delts, Avista Sistas, and lifelong Everett Seagal friends), ongoing charitable endeavors and travel. Her planning and financial acumen had set in motion this plan, only to be cut woefully short by the rapid onset of unforeseen health concerns. Be it in family, friends or career, Diane was always prepared and never flew by the seat of her pants. And just when she could really kick back and enjoy, she is gone. Diane will never be forgotten. She joins in Heaven her parents, Jim and Jeanne. She is survived by her devoted husband Terry Thoren, his daughters Julie Brown and Denise (Brock) Materne, her brothers Jim Cuthill and Dave (Marikay) Cuthill, her grandchildren Zachary Brown, McKenzie Brown, Colton Materne and Avery Materne, her nephews Skyler Cuthill and Patrick (Kerry) Thoren and her nieces Cassidy Cuthill, Meagan Cuthill, Katie Cuthill, Maci Cuthill, and Laura Thoren, and a cast of hundreds of dear friends. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to one of the following organizations Diane was deeply committed to serving: Women Helping Women, YWCA or WSU Scholarship Fund. Please join us for a celebration of Diane?s life on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 2:00pm at the Barrister Winery located at 1213 W. Railroad Ave, Spokane, WA.
