Dolly CRNA, BS Johnston Obituary (Age 89) Dolly died peacefully at Hospice of Spokane South House on June 20, 2017. She was born on the Johnson farm near Ririe, ID on November 11, 1927. Dolly enjoyed her long career as a nurse. She graduated as a Cadet Nurse in 1945 in Boise, ID and completed her CRNA training in Salt Lake City. She would like to be remembered for giving a great anesthetic. She sang The Old Rugged Cross and Rock of Ages when her patients urgently needed skills beyond the surgeons abilities. Dolly administered anesthetics in Utah, Nevada, American Samoa, Wyoming, Idaho, and Washington State. Dolly will always be remembered for her intelligence, wit, beautiful yard, fierce independence, duplicate bridge skills, and willingness to serve. She volunteered for the American Arthritis Foundation and helped with the Jingle Bell Run for many years. Dolly maintained an experimental plot of roses for Jackson and Perkins in Spokane. She actively participated in the Brookdale community from 2011-2017. Her favorite ending to many conversations was, You just think about that. Dollys family is deeply grateful for the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and Hospice of Spokane who treated her with love, kindness, and the quality of care she expected. Memorial contributions can be made to the Gospel Rescue Mission. Dolly is survived by her only daughter, Cherie Johnston; her only grandchild, Sonia (Todd) Helmick; great grandchild, Luke Helmick; two nieces, one nephew, and an extended family of choice. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and sister.
