Don Auld Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Don Auld announces his passing on Thursday August 3, 2023. Don will be deeply missed by his wife Patty, daughter Amanda, and grandson Axel. Don was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and a devoted husband. He was an integral part of his extended family and they, too, will miss him dearly.
Don could comfortably strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere he went and treasured many lifelong friendships. He provided laughter to everyone he knew, always impressing us with his quick wit. Throughout his final years he remained cheerful in the face of adversity, always smiling with a joke or upbeat comment.
Don departed high school, alongside three of his friends to enlist in the US Navy. After serving honorably and navigating through a multitude of experiences, which included countless days dedicated to painting. This was a craft that eventually became his expertise, and he returned home as a genuinely kind man.
Don had a strong work ethic that took him to his favorite place of employment at Spokane Public Schools as a foreman on the paint crew. He loved working alongside his coworkers. After he retired his colleagues, who missed him, would frequently ask Patty for updates on how Don was fairing. Don would always jump into projects with a smile. He would often be found helping friends or family using his construction expertise and a work ethic that remained strong no matter the size of the project.
Don loved summers at Lake Pend Oreille, hanging out with family and friends. He loved to take anyone on a tour of the lake on his boat. Many memories were made that will be retold with laughter and maybe even embellished with each passing year.
For twelve years Don enjoyed being a member of the Harley Owners Group. They would go on motorcycle rides across the country bonding over their love of riding. One of his favorite rides was through Montana driving alongside Evil Knievel, his idol and hero.
We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to our family for all the compassion shown to Don and support offered to us through this very difficult time. Special recognition to daughter Amanda, niece Jessica and Norah for their loving and faithful care in his last months. Care that, at times, was light with laughter and memories, and at other times, truly heart-breaking. We celebrate the life of Don Auld-a life well lived, full of love, hard work, and faithful devotion to his family. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
