Don W. Brown Obituary
Our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away on February 15, 2016. Born in Monroe, LA July 26,1944 where his southern roots formed the background of his life. At the age of 5 he along with his mother Jean and sister Linda moved to the Pacific Northwest. Settling in Auburn where he was raised, graduating from Auburn High School in 1962. Obtained a Bachelors degree in Political Science/Education from Central WA University May 1967. Immediately upon graduation enlisted in the US Army, serving primarily in Korea, promoting to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He started his 30yr management career with Sears Roebuck & Co in Seattle. While working at Sears he met his future wife Carol with whom celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary August 2015. In 1979 Don accepted a transfer and relocated his family to Wenatchee Wa. Residing there for the next thirteen years, he and Carol raised their two sons. After their youngest son graduated high school, Don answered his ?Call of the Wild?, moving with Carol to Anchorage, Ak beginning their next great adventure. His final assignment returned them to Eastern WA, retiring in Spokane. Avid outdoorsman starting in childhood and continuing throughout his life. Respected by all people he worked with in his career, military service and personal life. Dedicated family man who always made the effort to attend his sons and grandchildren?s sporting events and activities whether in town or not. A perfect day was working his hunting dogs in the field. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his grandkids and following Gonzaga Basketball. Once retired he spent much of his time giving back to youth and disabled hunters taking them out turkey hunting and fishing to share his passion for the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Jean Durspek and sister Linda Phillips. Survived by his wife Carol, their two sons Richard (Nicole) Smetzler and Jeff (Victoria) Smetzler, eight grandchildren, a large extended family and lifelong friends. A true outdoorsman if there ever was. He will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to:
The Veterans or Wildlife organization of your choice. A Celebration of his life will be held Thursday, February 25th at 12pm at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane, WA 99205.
