Donald D. Dewar Obituary (Age 90) Donald Douglas Dewar, a lifelong resident of the Spokane area, was born on February 9, 1926 and passed away at the age of 90 on December 28, 2016. Don was the son of James Dewar and Ida Matilda Dewar (Jacot), married to Ethel Florence Dewar (Anderson), with their 5 children - Nancy Cosby (Paul), Sandra Nierenberg, Laura Cochran (Corky), Susan Smith (Terry) and Patricia Dewar. He was also blessed with six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition, Joyce Stefanoff was his special friend and traveling companion. Don graduated from Reardan High School and then Washington State University with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He served with the Army Air corps in Douglas, AZ at the end of World War II. He joined the Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood team and retired after 35 years. He was requested by the Dean of Gonzaga University to teach a course in metallurgy and taught for 4 years. Don continued to work as a Quality Assurance Specialist until he was 87 years old. He was a lifetime member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a member of the Spokane Mountaineers, Historian Presenter at the Spokane Valley Heritage Museum, Museum Docent at Northwest Museum Arts & Culture and Ombudsman for Spokane Valley assisted living facilities. The Celebration of Life will be held January 7, 2017. Please contact the family for more information. Memorial contributions in his honor can be made to a charity of your choice.
