Donna (Dyer) Dieckman Obituary DIECKMAN, Donna (Dyer) (Age 92) Donna Dyer Dieckman was born on June 26, 1926 in Spokane, WA. Following her graduation from Lewis and Clark High School during the height of WWII, she joined the Cadet Nurses Training Program. After the war she attended the University of Washington where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She returned to her hometown where she graduated from the Sacred Heart School of Nursing and worked as a surgical nurse in Spokane, San Francisco, CA and Arlington, VA. Donna married Leslie Dieckman in the summer of 1957 and raised three children: Jane, Jeff and John. Donna was a member of the Spokane PEO where she held several offices and was an active member of Central Lutheran Church. Twin Lakes, ID, just thirty-five miles north and east of Spokane, was a special place for Donna. Her father built a small red cabin on its placid shores in 1946, and for the next 72 years the Red Cabin would be her special place. Donna spent as much time there as possible building stone walkways, patios and even a stone jetty. One summer evening, Donna and her sister Doris rowed across the lake to say hi to a group of FBI agents who were vacationing at the nearby Lilac Lodge. Les Dieckman, a tall, thin, somewhat shy agent, was immediately attracted to this brash, self-confident young lady and in 1957 they were married. Les career crisscrossed the country; the couple lived in Washington DC, Savannah, GA (where Jane was born), Buffalo, NY (where Jeff was born) and Boise, ID (where John was born) as well as Butte, MT and Bellevue, WA before finally making their way back to Spokane in 1975. Today, Donna and Les children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends continue to find peace and tranquility at the small red cabin on the shores of Twin Lakes. Following their retirement Donna designed and oversaw construction of their dream house at Twin Lakes where she and Les spent their golden years surrounded by family and friends. Donna and Les celebrated their 61st anniversary on July 31, 2018. Les passed away five days later. Following her husbands funeral, Donna confided that she was done and that she wanted to be with Les. The following day, a sixty-one-year love story came to a peaceful end. Donna died as she lived: filled with peace and love surrounded by family. Donna and Les are survived by Jane (Mercer Island, WA), Jeff (Spokane, WA), John (Spokane, WA) and granddaughters Sydney and Bayley Hanson (Mercer Island). We are blessed to have had so many years with our wonderful, loving parents. A funeral service will be held at Central Lutheran Church (512 South Bernard St) on Saturday, September 1st at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to St Jude Children's Research Hospital. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Donna, please visit our Tree Store.
