Doris B. Perdue Obituary
(Age 88) Doris Perdue was born in Clarkson WA on May 12, 1928 and died at Hospice House North in Spokane WA on November 16, 2016. Doris is preceded in death by both her parents, her husband of 67 years Joe, and six siblings including her identical twin sister and best friend Dora.
The story is told that her mother Laura at that time, the parent to five boys and a girl told her husband Floyd, she would like twins if one could be a girl. She was blessed with identical twin girls, born half an hour apart at home. Doris began her education at Olsen Spur, a one room school house near Clayton WA. She continued through Deer Park Elementary and graduated from Deer Park High School in 1946. She and Dora were co-salutatorians of their class.
After World War II ended, Doris moved to Spokane and worked for the First National Bank where she and Joe met. They married in Coeur d Alene ID in 1949 and began a family that grew to include three daughters, Joleen, Vickie and Laurie, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren all who survive her. Doris worked part time while her daughters were young. In addition, she volunteered in her community with many organizations including Whitman Elementary P.T.A. as president, Camp Fire Girls leader and Guardian of Jobs Daughters Bethel 36. Mom quietly and actively supported institutions that built strong families. Education was a priority in the Perdue family. Doris re-entered the full-time work force to help finance her daughters educations. She retired from the Crescent Department store as manager of the cashier department.
Mom was a homemaker at heart. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and baking. She loved word puzzles and playing word games to keep her mind sharp. She won Best of Class and Special Award Blue Ribbons at the Spokane Interstate Fair for her knitting. Her sweaters and afghans were special gifts to her family. If you had one of these from Booma, you knew you were loved. She lovingly cared for her family her entire life.
Services will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday December 3, 2016 at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Happy Watkins will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Hospice of Spokane.
