July 16, 1929 - March 08, 2014

Doris C. Hewson Obituary (Age 84) Doris entered into rest on Saturday, March 8, 2014 in Cheney, WA. Doris and her twin sister Deloris were born on July 16, 1929 in Dickinson, ND to Peder and Alma Nasset. After graduating from high school, Dorie traveled to Spokane to attend the Sacred Heart School of Nursing. Her older sister, Agnes, lived in Spokane and introduced Dorie to a nice young man from their hometown, Elmer Hewson. It was love at first sight, and the couple was married on September 5, 1948. The early years of their marriage were spent on Elmer?s farm in Pine City, WA. During those years, their three children were born. In 1959, the family relocated to the Garden Springs area of Spokane. Dorie was active in the lives of her children as a member of the PTO, room mother, Brownie Scout leader, and in her church, Central Lutheran and later Emmanuel Lutheran. Dorie and Elmer were members of the Winsor Grange. Dorie returned to Sacred Heart Medical Center in 1965 working as a ward secretary and later as a surgery scheduler. She stayed at SHMC until her retirement in 1994. Dorie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Elmer, and her grandson Kane Thompson, as well as her sisters Agnes Schmidt, Pearl Funk, Deloris Clevenger, and her brothers Raymond Nasset and Lawrence Nasset. Dorie is survived by her son Ricky and wife Joan Hewson of Medical Lake, daughers Kathleen Thompson of Spokane, Susan and husband Charles Rice of Spokane, seven grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff of Cheney Assisted Living and the Cheney Care Center for the friendship and tender loving care shown to their mother for the past 11 years. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, we ask you to please make a donation in Dorie?s name to the Alzheimer?s Association at alz.org.
