Doris passed away peacefully at Riverview Care Center on October 30, 2009 after a long struggle with emphysema and congestive heart failure. She was born in Columbus, NE on August 29, 1921 to parents Vivian and Herman Zinnicker. She moved with the family from Nebraska to Spokane in the late 1920s. Doris graduated from North Central in 1930 and worked three jobs from high school to marriage. The Sweet Shoppe, Bates Drug downtown at which time she did some modeling for a photographer upstairs and lastly she worked at a five & dime, SH Kress where she made many life-long friends. She married the love of her life Jack Linden on December 15, 1945. Their daughter Jackie was born in 1950. They lived in San Diego while Jack was in the Navy and in Moses Lake when he was transferred from Spokane with Pacific NW Bell. There again they formed friendships that would last a lifetime. The family moved back to Spokane after five years and that was where she remained until her death. Doris enjoyed meeting people and made friends easily. Through the years she loved to play cards, both pinochle and bridge. She was a member of the Kappa Zeta sorority and a sewing club. For many years she along with friends from church made To and From gift tags of which she took much pleasure in doing. The money from this was used for special projects. Doris was an active member of Knox Presbyterian and the Gleaners Sunday School class for over 50 years. She was an active "partner" along with Jack in the Telephone Pioneers. They loved roses and belonged to the Spokane Rose Society and they enjoyed lots of concerts, plays and several cruises. She was loved and will be missed by many. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Jack; brothers Richard, Harry and Burt and her parents. She is survived by daughter Jackie and close friend Mark Savelesky; sisters Donna Lungo of Spokane and Marge Alvarez of Arroyo Grande, CA; numerous nieces and nephews. She was not blessed with grandchildren but delighted in the "little ones" of family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday 10 AM - 5 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. A
Graveside Service 11:30AM Saturday November 7, 2009 at Riverside Memorial Park followed by a 1:00PM Memorial Service at Knox Presbyterian Church, 806 W. Knox Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to Knox Presbyterian or a charity of your choice.
