July 15, 1917 - November 04, 2017

Doris Margaret Gruettner Obituary (Age 100) As long as there is a memory, she will live in our hearts. Doris Margaret (Witte) Gruettner walked into the loving arms of our savior, Jesus Christ on November 4, 2017. Doris was born on July 15, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois. It was in Chicago that she met and married the love of her life, Samuel Gruettner. Sam and Doris moved to Spokane in 1952 where they raised their 3 daughters. Doris loved to dance and danced her way through life. She accompanied Sam, who was a highly sought-after square dance caller, to square dance events all over the country. And later in life, she was still dancing as a volunteer for the Day out for the Blind organization that throws a dance party every Friday. Doris was a very creative person, making costumes and throwing parties for her daughters and then for her grandchildren. In her golden years, Sam and Doris spent the winters in Apache Junction, AZ where she often participated in community plays and skits. Doris used to say that her secret to a long life was her sense of humor, which she said was the only sense she had. Doris joins her husband, Samuel Gruettner, a sister, a brother and parents. She leaves behind three daughters Marilyn Rookey (Barry) of Nine Mile Falls, WA, Lorraine Stene (Warren) of Spokane, WA and Joanne Blair (Alan) of Mead, WA. Also left behind are eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and her niece Maryann Walker. The family of Doris Gruettner would like to give special thanks to the Royal Park Health and Rehabilitation Center for their excellent and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held 2:30pm Monday, November 13, 2017 at Heritage Funeral Home
