June 18, 1931 - January 06, 2022

Dorothy Alex Obituary Dorothy Alex died January 6th at the age of 90. She was born in Yakima, Washington on June 18th, 1931, to Greek Immigrants, Mary, and Chris Alex. At age 4 years old, after her fathers tragic death from botulism, her mother came to Spokane with Dorothy, older brother Constantine and younger brother George, this is where she grew up, went to Lincoln grade school, and graduated from Lewis & Clark High School. She then left home and went to university of Washington where she graduated with a teaching degree. The first two years of her career were at Emerson elementary in Spokane. After that she taught elementary school in Germany for the U.S. Army personnel for two years. She then taught elementary school in Concord, California for the duration of her career. She was known as an excellent teacher and the children loved her. Upon retiring in the mid 80s, she moved back home to live in the family home and care for her mother until her death in 1991. With the same wishes of her mother to die in the house, Dorothy continued to live out her years in the historic house known to many as, Marys House in the center of Sacred Heart Hospital. She was active in the Holy Trinity Greek orthodox Church and sang in their choir and shared in the lives of the Greek community. She was also a member of The Daughters of Penelope for many years. Over the years, she traveled many times to Greece to visit relatives, the family village and enjoy the heritage of her ancestral land. She delighted in the company and conversation with people, sharing stories with great dramatic expressions and lots of laughter! Because of this, she was a great hostess, loved to entertain and an excellent cook! Her death was preceded by her father, baby brother Frank, mother, stepfather Pete Gianetsas and brother Constantine Alex. She is survived by her brother George Alex, Xenia Gianetsas and several nieces and nephews. She was a fun and loving lady and will be missed by many. Her memorial is eternal.
