Dorothy Ann (Burnette) Brown Obituary (Age 88) Dorothy Ann Burnette Brown entered into the loving arms of Jesus on June 5, 2017. Dorothy was the second born to Bottineau, ND parents, Melville and Christine Lundy on January 18, 1929. Dorothys parents moved the family to the Pacific Northwest in 1943 in search of a new future following six years of drought that destroyed the family farm. Dorothys father, Mel, drove the familys Model A Sedan, heading towards the Northwest Coast the land of opportunity, but ran out of gas rationing coupons in Spokane. Dorothy would attend North Central High School while often working two jobs, the Empress Theater and waitressing at her mothers restaurant, Mels Lunch in downtown Spokane. Dorothy met and married Martin Burnette, Sr., a US Marine in 1946. They were blessed with three children, Dorothy Marie, Maurice Dale and Martin Arthur, Jr. Dorothys days were filled raising the kids and being a den mother for Boy and Girl Scout meetings in her home. A life lived in the service of others best describes Dorothy, as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend or community volunteer, Dorothy never ran out of kindness or enthusiasm. A few of her volunteer activities were with Spokane Sons of Norway, Boy & Girl Scouts of America, Spokane County Womens Republican Party and supporting her son, Martin Jr., in his political activities. Dorothy took up ballroom dancing following the death of Martin Sr. and blossomed into a championship dancer. Later to meet and marry Fredrick Malcolm Brown, a hall of fame football coach from Rogers High School in Spokane. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Maurice Dale Burnette of Valdez, AK and Martin Arthur Burnette, Jr. of Spokane, WA; and sister, Muriel Petrettee of Spokane, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harold and Kenneth Lundy; husband, Martin A. Burnette, Sr.; daughter, Dorothy Marie Burnette; and her husband, Fredrick Malcolm Brown. Viewing will be held on Saturday, June 10th from 10am 5pm at Heritage Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 16th at 2pm at Heritage Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spokane Union Gospel Mission.
