Dorothy J. Goodell-Tompkins Obituary
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Dorothy passed away peacefully on December 17, 2013 in Spokane where she lived most of her life. She was born to Clifford and Lura Mae Powers on November 22, 1920 in Lewiston, Idaho and had an older brother Robert. She attended high school right across the street from the family home her dad had built the first year of her life. She attended Kinman Business College in Spokane, Washington. She met Gene Goodell during High School and they were married from 1940 until 1975 when Gene passed away.
She always loved music and sang in a group in high school and then later in the Sweet Adelines and church choirs. She played the piano and organ by ear and loved to dance. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing most of hers and her girl?s clothes. Dorothy had many diverse jobs in her life, the last being for the Central Valley School District in the administration office until she retired at age 60 and married Vern Tompkins. They enjoyed traveling around the United States in their 5th wheel. Vern passed away in 2007. She then lived happily at Holman Gardens directly across the street from her son, Dick?s home attending her flower pots and bird feeders.
She is survived by her four children, Donna Jeanne Unicume, Dick (Sharon) Goodell, Judy (Don) Kurth and Greg Goodell, eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She will always be remembered as a sweet lady who loved to have fun in life and who loved her family and friends dearly.
Her memorial service will be Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Spokane Valley Baptist Church, 1222 S. McDonald Rd., Spokane Valley 99216. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests a donation in her memory to: Senior Home Foundation/ Holman Gardens, 12912 E. 12th Ave., Spokane Valley 99216.
