Dorothy Mae (Sicilia) Bourne Obituary
(Age 85) Dorothy, of Spokane, WA entered into heaven on June 23, 2015. She was one of the nine children born to Josephine and Santo Sicilia in the Wildrose Area. While living on the family farm, Dorothy attended grade school and middle school at the Montfort School on Monroe Road. She then went to Mead High School and graduated in 1948. While in high school, she met her high school sweet-heart and the love of her life, Harry ?Dick? Bourne. They were married in August of 1948 at Saint Aloysius Church. Dorothy and Dick then started on their way to having a family of their own, and eventually had three daughters. They are Victoria, Patricia, and Joanne. Once the daughters were all in school, Dorothy went to work part-time for the Mead School Food Service as a cook in 1957. She made and served hot school lunches at both Whitworth Elementary and Evergreen Elementary. In 1961 Dorothy went to a full-time status. She drove the ?Join the Lunch Bunch? white buggy while delivering the food to the children at these two schools plus Shiloh Hills Elementary. Retiring in May of 1989, after 28 years of full-time work, Dorothy and Dick were able to start traveling the United States and Canada in their RV. They greatly enjoyed Montana and the folks that live there. They were members of the Good Sam?s Club and attended many events with their friends over the years. They even went to Alaska in the RV and had a wonderful adventure together. Dorothy was a supreme seamstress, and made her own clothes and those for the family. She would make curtains, drapes, dresses, shirts, pants, and wedding dresses for many members of the family. She would often be found mending and ironing in her sewing room. She also sewed hundreds of Cub Scout and Boy Scout badges over the years. Dorothy was also a fabulous holiday decorator. Having lived in their current home for about 55 years, all of the family, friends and neighbors knew what holiday was coming up next by simply driving by and looking at the two large picture windows of the home. They would almost be decorated all year long with numerous decorations for the next holiday that was coming up on the calendar. Above all else, Dorothy was the most caring and loving person that anyone could ever meet. Everyone in the large and extended Italian family could count on her phone calls, if they be daily, weekly or monthly to see how the family was doing. And if you happen to be sick, you could count on two phone calls, one in the morning and another in the evening, just to see how you were doing and if you needed anything. This will be truly missed by too many to list. If there was an award for ?the best daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother? ?- Dorothy would have won that title numerous times over her lifetime. She was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and Santo, and her siblings, Carm, George, Edith, Bill, Viola and Mary. She is survived by her husband of 67 years Dick Bourne, her daughters and son-in-laws, Victoria & Randy Bunke, Patricia & Rich Beal, and Joanne & Dick Hunt. Dorothy has six grandchildren, and they are with their spouses Troy & Ellen, Cami & John, Shad & Marni, Travis & Mihaela, Alicia & Greg, and Karli & Ray. She also has ten great-grandchildren with many who call her ?Grandma Great,? and they are Chelsea, Ashley, Darren, Brandon, Turner, Jami, Kendall, Rudy, Bianca, and baby Bronson. Finally, Dorothy has one great-great-grandchild on the way this fall. She is also survived by her two brothers Jim Sicilia and Chuck Sicilia, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Dorothy was a devout Catholic and a devout parishioner of the Saint Thomas More Parish since it was founded in 1957. Therefore, there will be a Rosary held on June 30, 2015 at 7:00 PM to be followed by a Funeral Mass that will be held on July 1, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Both of these will take place at the Saint Thomas More Catholic Church located at 515 W. St Thomas More Way, Spokane, WA. She will be laid to rest at Fairmount?s Spokane-Cheney Memorial Gardens Cemetery in a private graveside service. The family would like to thank Hospice of Spokane and the Northside Hospice House for their exemplary care and kindness during these last few months. You all are amazing and wonderful people. Thank you for all that you do. Donations may be made in the memory of Dorothy Bourne to Hospice of Spokane, PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210 or see www.hospiceofspokane.org.
