Dorothy Middaugh

Dorothy Middaugh Obituary Predeceased by husband, Frank, mother Hazel Flowers, father Elmer Flowers, daughter and son-in-law, Jim and Lynn Crawford. She is survived by her son Jeffrey; ex-daughter-in-law Sydney; grandchildren: Shannon Jones, Jaclyn Groff, Laura LaRosa and Erik Crawford, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. During the 60s in Illinois and early 70s in Florida, Dorothy and Frank were involved with the Boy Scouts of America, teaching Cub Scout leaders how to work with young boys and making scouting fun for both the leaders and the boys. Because of their active work with the BSA Frank received the Silver Beaver and Dorothy received the Silver Fawn, the BSA's highest award for volunteers. Dorothy, Frank and Hazel moved to Spokane in 1978 with the intention of starting a professional Baton business. They were quite successful until Frank became ill and the business ultimately closed. Meanwhile Dorothy went to work for Bob Shea Insurance in 1981 and was office manager until her retirement in 1994. Dorothy was an accomplished vocal soloist and performed all her life in churches, concerts and special events from the time she was 6 years old... often stating her first gig was at the age of 6 with Gene Autry on station WLS in Chicago. She worked for Project Joy Senior Entertainers as Office Administrator since 1996. She also performed for them for three years with a partner and were known as Three for the Show. Dorothy joined Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church and became active in the Chancel Choir, Deborah Circle and worked with a small group making prayer shawls, lap robes and scarves for those who need that extra boost in their lives. Her wish was that there be no tears for her passing, but instead have one heck of a party to celebrate life. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 10:00AM at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline.
