Dorothy Smith Parrish Obituary Dorothy (Dot) S. Parrish, 89, of Spokane WA, joined that Heavenly choir, as her Lord and Savior must have needed another Alto, on the morning of September 10th, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. Dorothy was born on June 1st, 1934, to George & Mabel (De Wine) Smith in Lyons Kansas and was the oldest of four children, Lois, Don, and Dan. Dorothy was married to Charles M. Parrish for about 20 years. The couple had three children together, Mark (Dianna) Parrish, Steven (Joannie) Parrish, and Douglas (Kelly Moon) Parrish. As Charles was in the Army, at the time, he was assigned to Fort Jackson in Columbia South Carolina. Dorothy found employment at Moncreif Army Hospital as a Purchasing Agent in the Procurement Division of the Medical Materiel Branch. In the 25 plus years she served in the Materiel Branch she worked her way up to Senior Supervisor of the Procurement Division. Dorothy retired in May 1995. During Dorothys tenure at Moncreif, she relocated to Eastover South Carolina. In the early 2000s she was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration in both eyes. As her vision steadily grew worse, she realized she could no longer drive herself. She decided to move to Spokane WA in 2006 to be near her son Steve so he could drive her to her eye appointments for her treatments. Being the independent person that she was, Dorothy insisted on living by herself. Dorothy was extremely talented and excelled at many creative crafts. She often could be found mending existing clothing for herself and her three boys as well as sewing new clothing for her numerous grandchildren and various local charities. She enjoyed crocheting baby blankets for her grandchildren and local charity organizations, as well as crocheting various kitchen items as well as holiday decorations. She loved to bake cookies, cakes, candies, zucchini breads, make grape jelly and strawberry freezer jam. Dorothy loved to garden and had a rather large one in Eastover South Carolina that included blueberry bushes. Sadly, when she moved to Spokane WA, she had to downsize. More than anything Dorothy loved her family and sharing Gods word. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Mark (Dianna) Parrish, Steve (Joannie) Parrish, Doug (Kelly Moon) Parrish, sister Lois Compton, brothers Don (Glenna) Smith, Dan (Connie) Smith, and many grandchildren, Great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents George & Mabel (De Wine) Smith. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Dorothy , please visit our Tree Store.
