Douglas S. Brett Obituary (Age 88) Passed away January 12, 2013. Doug was born on the family farm in Kensington Township, Walsh County near Park River, North Dakota on September 29, 1924 to Arthur and Audrey (Soper) Brett. Growing up, he attended the Brett School, a one room country school and went to high school at the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River. Doug joined the Navy in 1943 and did his basic training in Farragut, Idaho. He was assigned to a fleet tanker and spent two years serving in the South Pacific. He married Henrietta Bina in 1947 and their son Wayne was born in 1948. Doug and his brother-in-law Stanley operated a service station and caf? at Niagara, North Dakota from 1950 to 1953. The family moved to Spokane in 1953 where Doug worked for Layrite Products for 36 years, retiring in 1989. Doug, Henrietta and Wayne were active with the Boy Scouts for many years and enjoyed camping and traveling. Doug and Henrietta were also long time members of the Northwest Treasure Hunters Club. Doug was best known for his great sense of humor and loved to play practical jokes on friends and family. He was an excellent handyman with a great heart and willingness to help out anyone especially family, friends and neighbors. Doug was preceded in death by his son Wayne, sisters Rosemary Krebs, Margaret Seim, Janice Costanzo and brother Robert Brett. Doug is survived by his wife of 65 years, Henrietta. Doug is also survived by brothers Glen, John, Jerry, Dwight and Richard Brett, sister, Joline Board and many nieces and nephews who will always remember him fondly as their ?Uncle Shorty?. A Memorial service will be held January 26 at 1:00 at Fowler United Methodist Church, 3928 N. Howard St., Spokane, WA 99205.
