October 26, 1945 - January 07, 2014

Douglas T. Rice Obituary Doug passed away at his home in Otis Orchards, WA on January 7, 2014. He was born on October 26, 1945 to Edward and Elverna Rice in Billings, Montana and was tenth of ten children. He served in the United States Marine Corps and received an Honorable Discharge on October 31, 1968. Doug was an entrepreneur and thoroughly enjoyed creating and designing new products. In his younger years, Doug was an avid stock car racer and many of the people that came to watch him race could always expect to see a very exciting crash but, no matter what, he was ready to race again the next weekend. Doug was also a stockbroker which was a job he excelled at and was admired for his expertise. Last, but not least, Doug always had a joke to tell anyone he met whether he knew them or not. When his wife asked him why he always told jokes, he told her, "I just like to see them smile." Thank you Doug for being my best friend and a wonderful father...We love and miss you. Doug is survived by his wife, Sheba; and his children, Jerry, Carlette, and Chad; his six grandchildren, Madison, Garen, Makenzy, Mikail, Mandee, and Doug; his five great-grandchildren, Kaedyn, Mya, Lily, Calina, and Calsifer (Cal); his brother, Larry Rice and his two sisters, Pauline Norris and Judy Gustafsen, as well as many, many nieces and nephews. Service will be held Saturday, January 18th at 2:00 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA, with a reception to follow at the Spokane Valley Eagles, 16801 E. Sprague in Spokane Valley, WA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Douglas T. Rice Memorial Foundation (www.seethemsmile.org), P.O. Box 475, Liberty Lake, WA 99019.
