Douglas Wayne Henry, USAF Major (Ret.) Obituary (Age 80) Douglas was born December 11, 1932 in White Plains, NY to Leonard R. and ?Claire? Clara Belle (Strobeck) Henry. He passed away February 16, 2013 in Spokane. Doug graduated from East Northport, NY High School in 1951 and enlisted in the United States Air Force that August, during the Korean War. He completed Officer Candidate School and navigator training. He served as a Navigator/Bombardier in B-47?s, Titan II Missile Silo Commander and AC119 NOS/FLIR Officer in Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force in August 1971. Doug began civilian life by moving to Cheney, WA attending Eastern Washington State College, graduating with a degree in Industrial Arts Education. Doug served as a substitute teacher in many Spokane area districts and taught in Salem, Or. Upon re-locating back to Cheney, he was employed as the Wood Hobby Shop manager at Fairchild AFB and Contract Shop Manager at Goodwill Industries until retirement. Doug enjoyed fishing, trapshooting, hunting, auto races, coaching T-ball, Boy Scouts and baseball games with his boys. He was a longtime member of United Methodist Church in Cheney, WA. Doug was married to Nancy Timmann from 1962-1987. Doug was preceded in death by his 2nd wife Anna Mae and his parents. He is survived by his sons Robert (Donna) Henry of Deer Park, WA, and Michael (Kelli) Henry of Veradale, WA: grandchildren Ensign Kyle Martin, Ashlee Martin, and Brandon, Mathew, Kelsy and Alexis Henry; sister and brother-in-law Phyllis (Henry) and Walter Paiuk of Post Falls, ID. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Spokane Veteran?s Home for the compassionate, respectful and loving care they provided Doug in the last year of his life. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Doug?s name to a charity that honors your friendship with him. A private ceremony and interment have been held.
