Douglas William Dixon Obituary
(Age 81) Passed away September 16, 2016 in Spokane Valley. He was born December 14, 1934 in Pateros, WA to William F. and Florence (Gebbers) Dixon. Survived by second wife Ruth; son David J Dixon, his wife Recca; grandsons Nicholas W Dixon and Jeremy P.(Kia) Jochumsen; great-grandsons Kain and Xavier Jochumsen; step-grandsons Justin and Coty (all of Spokane); step-daughter Michelle J. Krewson;
step-granddaughter Destiny R. Krewson (Dusty) (both of Coeur d?Alene, ID). Preceded in death by first wife Katherine A. (Shipley) Dixon 1998 and son Douglas W Dixon II 1978.
At the young age of 6, Doug and his family moved from his birthplace of Pateros to Winthrop, WA, where he resided until the age of 18. During that year he received a letter that would change his life. The letter read: ?Dear Douglas: Greetings, you have been selected by your friends and neighbors to serve in the US Army?. That letter was the result of the many friends he acquired over his lifetime, in his constant search of those ?friends and neighbors? who selected him to serve.
After his discharge, he was offered employment by the Morris-Knudsen Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator in Eastern Washington, working on several bridge and dam projects until he joined the Crick Construction Company, also as an operator. Further employers included Bower Machinery and NA Degerstrom, until his retirement as Superintendent from Max J Kuney Co. in 2001 as a 45 year member of the Local 370 Operating Engineers.
When not building roads, bridges and dams in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and gold mining in California he enjoyed, hunting, fishing, skiing, boating and riding his 4 wheeler.
When you hear the saying ?When they made you they broke the mold? was definitely for Doug. With as busy as he was with his many jobs, he not only made time for his two sons, but also their friends. He spent many weekends teaching them all how to hunt, fish, ski, and swim. He claimed that he taught ?every child in the Spokane Valley how to swim?. That may have come to be true, but when he started showing them how to climb up on the roof of the house and jump off into the pool, we decided to put a stop to his teaching, of everything. You were an icon Doug. You were loved by, and will be missed by many.
A Celebration of Doug?s life will be held between 1pm and 4pm, Saturday, September 24th at the Black Diamond, 9614 E. Sprague Ave, Spokane Valley, WA 99206.
