Earl Eugene Brown Obituary (Age 86) Passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 4, 2013. Earl was born to Roy and Ruth Brown on December 26, 1926 in Spokane, WA. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1945 and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was stationed aboard the USS Mississippi battleship in the Marine detachment. After the war he attended Whitworth College and Eastern Washington State College. He married Shirlee Jarvis in 1948 and together they had three children but divorced in 1972. In 1973 he married Marianne Elsom. Earl went to work for the Washington State Patrol in 1951 followed by the Spokane County Sheriff?s Office in 1955. Earl made a profound impact during his over 40-year tenure in law enforcement. He worked as a patrolman, radio operator, civil deputy, juvenile and regular detective, and shift commander of the patrol division. He became the Deputy Director of Emergency Services, for which he garnered significant praise and recognition throughout the community. While he officially retired in 1992, he was so devoted to his job that he continued working for one dollar a year for several more years. He had a passion for skiing and worked off duty for nine years providing security for the Mount Spokane Ski area. He always enjoyed his weekly lunches with dear friends as well as going on long, scenic drives. He is survived by his two sons, Curtis (Shirley) Brown and Kevin Brown; step-daughter, Elizabeth (James) Rector; grandchildren, Cody Brown, Jeff Brown, Kasey (Doug) Lupton, Korri (Dennis) Donham, Lisa Stueve, Chelsea Brown, and Aiden Rector, as well as six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kerri Kirk, wife Marianne Brown, brother Don Brown and sister Lora Rickard. He was deeply loved. His sense of humor, special laugh and generous heart will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Fairmount Memorial Park Sunset Chapel, 5200 W. Wellesley. Memorial contributions may be made in Earl?s name to either the Salvation Army or the Spokane Co. Honor Guard.
