Earl Haynes Obituary
Passed away on March 26th at home. Earl was born in Mukilteo, Washington on April 30, 1926. He grew up all over the state but attended elementary school mainly in Spokane. After eighth grade, he went to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad. In 1943 he was drafted into the Army Infantry. During World War II, Earl served in the Infantry in Europe, where he was eventually wounded. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. After the war ended in Europe, Earl joined a service baseball team. He credited this with helping him with many of the successes he had. The other teammates were mentors to him and guided him. After returning to the US, Earl obtained his GED. He completed seven years of college work, earning a masters degree in education. He was married and had four children. Earl coached and taught PE for 27 years in Spokane School District 81. For 23 of those years, he worked at Sacajawea Middle School. After leaving the school district, Earl realized he hated retirement so he worked for another 24 years selling fund raising chocolates. Earl and his wife Janice would have celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary in July. Earl finished his life at Harbor Crest Retirement Center and enjoyed fishing, traveling, and baseball until the end of his life. He is survived by his wife Janice (living at Harbor Glen), four children, and six grandchildren. At Earl's request, there will be no memorial service, but this summer when you hear the crack of a baseball bat or see a fish being landed, give him a thought!
Dad you will be missed.
