Edith Almy Materne-Neis Obituary Edith Almy Materne-Neis passed on from this life into the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, January 7, 2012. She was born on October 4, 1921 in Homewood, IL and was the youngest of six children born to Henry and Edith Pearson. Edith was a kind and gentle woman who never had anything mean or derogatory to say about anyone. She had a generous heart and it gave her great joy to see others happy. She was a lifelong homemaker who enjoyed hosting and entertaining family and friends. She not only treated people special, but also loved animals as well, dogs and cats in particular. In her life she was an avid swimmer, enjoyed playing pool, loved to dance and had a beautiful singing voice. Edith is survived by her six sons; Jerry (Sherlene) Simchen, Jim Neis, Dave Neis, Rik (Vicki) Neis, Jeff (Shelley) Neis and Phil Neis. She also has 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Edith is preceded in death by 1 brother and 4 sisters. The last 10 years of her life were spent at Sunshine Gardens Nursing Home. The love, care and compassion she received there was incredible. You were truly a blessing, not only to our mother, but also to us, her family. We will be forever grateful to the countless people at Sunshine Gardens who shared in her life and gave her such exceptional care. Funeral services will be 10am Friday, January 13, 2012 at Heritage Funeral Home with visitation on Wednesday and Thursday from 10-5. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
