Edith Else Leneke Obituary (Age 87) Was born on September 9, 1923 in Berlin, Germany, the daughter of Else Emma Agnes Freund and Karl Friedrich Albert Freund. She passed away at her home surrounded by her family on November 20, 2010, joining her son Michael in rest. She will be cherished by her two sons; Carl (Mary) Popham and Eric (Teresa) Popham; grandsons Seth Popham, Russell Popham and Timothy Popham; and granddaughters Bridgette Meyer and Rachel Popham. Edith was a strong and proud woman who lived her life on her terms, but was always available to her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and like Michael, loved to dance. She worked as a bookkeeper in various positions until settling in Spokane, where she worked for the Operating Engineers Local #370 until her retirement. It was at that time she filled her desire to travel the world (China, Egypt, New Zealand, Australia, Europe, Russia, Croatia, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Thailand and the list goes on.) She was a member of the German-American Society where she held positions on the Board of Directors for many years. Edith also sang in the choir. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In her memory, donations may be made to Hospice of Spokane, P O Box 2215, Spokane,WA 99210 or the German-American Society, 25 W. 3rd Ave., Spokane, WA 99201.
