August 31, 1921 - August 26, 2015

Edith T. Bressler Obituary (Age 93) Edith died in Spokane, August 26, 2015. Edith was born August 31, 1921 in Appleton, MN to Rudolf Taylor and Kunegunda Konieczny. She was a resident of Spokane for the last 61 years. Edith graduated from Appleton High School in 1939. She received her RN from the Halstead School of Nursing in 1944 and joined the US Army Nurse Corps as lieutenant, serving as nurse anesthetist on Okinawa in the summer of 1945. Following her discharge from service, and while visiting her sister in Richland, WA, she met and fell in love with Bill Bressler. They married in 1947 and sons Taylor, Jason, and Kevin were born in Richland. Edith, Bill and the boys moved to Spokane in 1954 where son George, and daughter Kristine were born. Mom was forever a nurse, by training and experience as well as in everyday living. She worked at Kadlec Hospital in Richland from 1946 to 1950 and returned to the profession from 1964 to 1985 ending as head orthopedic nurse at Holy Family Hospital. Edith was the bridge to our many cousins and she was known as ?Sis? to her siblings and nieces and nephews. She was the mainstay of the annual polish picnic with the Meyers clan at Priest Lake, where the fresh huckleberry pie was perfected. Edith grew her family with endless understanding, patience, acceptance and limitless love. ?Stay calm and carry on? was the epitome of Mom. It carried her through raising five children and her professional career. She showed her love by baking, sewing, and making quilts for the family. We remember her as being iron hard, cotton soft and always making sure we did not need anything to eat. She was the keel in our lives. Edith is preceded in death by her beloved Bill, and siblings Leona, Margaret, Johnny and Robert. She is survived by her children - Taylor, Jason, Kevin, George and Kristine, grandchildren - Andrea, Jordan, Errol, Ailene, Mary, Pamela, Dolores, Grace and Clark, great-grandchildren - Terje, Silver, Bennet, Avery, Marissa, Nicole, Kyle, and Luke, and in-law family Melissa, Patrice, Wayne, Sherry, John, Paul, Megan, Ian, and Tiffany. A Graveside Service will be held at Spokane Memorial Gardens at 2:00 pm Thursday September 3rd. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane, PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210.
