Edmund W. "Corky" Braune Obituary (Age 85) Passed away on June 14, 2013 of natural causes. Corky was born January 12, 1928 in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho to Paul and Genevieve (Garvey) Braune. He was the youngest of their eight children. After graduating from high school, Corky attended Idaho State College and Gonzaga University until he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he was introduced to his life-long law enforcement career. After his service in the Air Corps, he became a deputy sheriff in Idaho. In 1953, Corky joined the Spokane County Sheriff's office. He retired from there in 1983 as Captain of Detectives. He married the love of his life, Darlene Miller of Mohler, Washington and they enjoyed 43 years of fun and traveling until her death in 2002. Through the years Corky has been on the boards of and actively involved with many organizations and charities of which one of his favorites was Morning Star Boys Ranch. He was also a 45+ year member of Central Lions Club. Corky enjoyed reminiscing about his life-long friends and about the families and children in his neighborhood that he and Darlene watched grow up. He is survived by 13 nieces and nephews: Paul Michael Braune of Spokane, Dominic Braune of Weslaco, TX, George Manning of Murrieta, CA, John Manning of Orlando, FL, Charles Manning of Encinitas, CA, Mary Oki of West Covina, CA, Virginia Ritchie of Mission Viejo, CA, Francis Manning of Mission Viejo, CA, Paulette Lang of La Canada, CA, June Gross of Somerville, MA, Martha Gross of Bellingham, WA, Gregory Gross of Elk Grove, CA and Hilary Gross of Pleasanton, CA A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 25th at 3 pm at the Heritage Funeral Home followed by a celebration of life reception at the Doubletree Hotel, 322 N. Spokane Falls Court, Spokane, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Morning Star Foundation, PO Box 31330, Spokane, WA 99223 or the charity of one's choice.
