Edward R. Hornig

January 07, 1919 - May 08, 2013

Edward R. Hornig Obituary (Age 94) Born January 7, 1919 and died on May 8, 2013. After being born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Ed married his wife of 74 years when he was 20. He soon thereafter proudly served in the Army during WWII. He was stationed in various places in Europe. After coming home, they moved to Denver, Colorado where they spent the majority of their lives. Ed worked for the railroad his entire working career. He held various positions for the Union Pacific, ultimately becoming Sales Manager. He loved his work and could have climbed the corporate ladder only that would have required a move ? Ed refused to move his family. Family was precious to Ed. He relished the times when the family could be together, go to the mountains for breakfast together, worship together, eat a sumptuous Sunday dinner together, fish together, etc. Anything ?together? meant the world to him ? even after his children married and had their own families. Summer family reunions were a highlight of his year. Ed was a lifelong Lutheran having served as a Sunday School teacher, elder, Bethel teacher and various other roles. He loved the Lord with all his heart and exuded the compassion of Christ to everyone even while not mentioning the origin of his compassion. The family holds great comfort in the fact that Ed is with his Lord and isn?t suffering the limitations of this world. Ed and Dorothy moved to Spokane in 2004. They enjoyed a wonderful life together even after a stroke in 2008 served as a challenge for Ed. Dorothy cared for her husband in heroic fashion giving example to everyone of the true meaning of loving and serving your husband ?in sickness and in health?. Ed leaves behind an adoring family: his children Karen Soper of Canyon Country, CA, Pastor Ed Jr. of Auburn, AL, Jackie Moorhead of Aurora, Colorado, Chris Waggoner of Spokane, and Pastor Mark from Sherwood Park, Alberta in Canada; in addition to their spouses; he also leaves 19 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 14 3-5PM at Heritage Funeral Home. A Celebration of his Life will be held at Beyond Grace Fellowship, 1012 S. Freya at 11:00AM Wednesday May 15, 2013.
