Edwin Willis Shearer

April 23, 1924 - February 21, 2012

Edwin Willis Shearer Obituary Born on April 23, 1924 and passed away in his sleep February 21, 2012 in his 87th year. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Cecilia (Pat) Shearer, and his twin brother Charles Francis by only three months, as well as a sister Lucille and brother Clinton. He is survived by his children Michelle (Therriault) Droettboom, and Theodore Therriault and five grandchildren, Theodore Therriault Jr., Karly (Therriault) Leyde, Karen (Droettboom) Dunham, Mike Droettboom, and Kurt Droettboom, and seven great-grandchildren. Dad lived his entire life in Spokane. He grew up in Millwood, was a teacher and administrator in the West Valley School District for 26 years, and retired along the river across from Gonzaga University. Dad was a builder, inventor and caretaker of many projects both in Spokane where he built his own home, and at Lake Pend Oreille where he maintained a cabin for over 50 years. Edwin served in the US Army during WWII and in the South Pacific. Music was always a part of his life. Dad played the tenor saxophone in numerous dance halls throughout Washington in the 40s; he played in the military band, and even performed on the radio back in the day. Then, in his 70s he taught himself to play the keyboard and became the most requested volunteer with Project Joy that provides entertainment to Senior Centers throughout Spokane. He always had jokes to tell and a "shtick" to go along with his performances. He was a nice man who surrounded himself with nice people who will miss him. A private family service is being held to celebrate his life. Condolences may be sent to the family by way of Heritage Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Project Joy.
